nutritionist visit - fish oils, kinesiology & fine-tuning your supplement intake...

Well I've just got back from my appointment with Lesley (my Nutritionist/Kinesiologist) and so I thought I'd write about it before I conk out... ;)

One thing we talked about, which I don't think many of us sufferers realise, is how careful we have to be when taking supplements of any kind.

Before I knew about kinesiology I did not realise how weak our systems are when we have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (or in my case, Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome).

Before this, I would maybe read an article or book and take the supplements (vitamins, minerals, herbs) that were suggested haphazardly, without any thought of what this might be doing to my system.

Overload?

Dosage too much?

Or too many supplements at one time?

Incompatibility?

Not right for where my body is at at the moment?

Nope - none of these things occurred to me in the slightest.

But what I have learned is that you MUST be careful about the amount of (and what types of, and makes of) vitamins, herbs, supplements and minerals you take....

As I've learned though my fab Nutritionist/Kinesiologist, Lesley Martin, there's a fine balance between taking just the right amount of what your body need RIGHT now...

... and overloading your body with either the wrong vitamin/mineral/supplement/herb, taking the wrong make, or wrong dosage.

Although there are are a number of supplements that generally work for sufferers, everyone is different. And your needs will differ at different times, depending on where your illness is at.

Now that I have experienced it myself, I really think that seeing a kinesiologist might be a good idea if you can see one.

Mine does me a special rate and the stuff she prescribes me always makes a difference on whatever level she's treating. This is because she can prescribe me a 'tailor-made' program that is made up from testing how my body responds to certain types of things.

OK this is a vague description because I don't quite understand Kinesiology myself (yet - I need to read up), so I hope you're following what I'm trying to say!

Regarding brain fog:

Lesley has recommended I try taking some linseed oil/flaxseed oil (drizzling it on my food e.g. on a salad as a dressing) as this is full of omega-3 and 6 (fatty acids which apparently help CFS and brain fog).

Also, she recomended taking GOOD quality fish oils. I take fish oils by a brand called 'Eskimo-3'.

I'm actually reading a book by Dr Puri at the moment, who says that fatty acids without DHA have shown brilliant results on CFS sufferers - but the only type available for now (that do not include DHA) is apparently called 'VegEPA '.
